crowdSPRING – logo design; the easy way

Posted by Dave CollinsGeneral

Why is getting a logo so difficult? Whether it’s a graphic logo for a website, something for printed materials, business card design or even a website material, we’ve all experienced the sequence of pain:

1) Find a designer. Ask around. Get 3 different opinions for any company you mention.

2) Choose the company. Be impressed with their portfolio. Send details of your project.

3) Wait. Chase. Wait. Chase. Wait. Chase.

4) Receive the first draft. Invariably it’s nothing like what you asked for, and probably looks as though it’s been designed by a six year old with a copy of Paint Shop Pro 4.

5) Send feedback, trying not to sound too angry or too shocked,

6) Wait. Chase. Wait. Chase. Wait. Chase.

You get the idea, and chances are you’ve been there before.

crowdSPRING is a different kettle of fish altogether.

The basic idea is that you (the buyer) posts details of your project. crowdSPRING give you a lot of pointers as to what to include, so even if you have little more than a vague idea you’ll soon have something surprisingly comprehensive.

You set a closing date for applications, the price that you consider reasonable (I think the minimum is $250), then you wait for the the designs to be submitted through the crowdSPRING system. When a new design is posted, you get a notification by email, and can rate and provide feedback. The result is that each designer gets to tweak their work exactly according to your design.

Once the deadline is up, assuming you have a minimum of 25 entries, you then choose the design you like, and providing that the buyer provides everything you asked for, s/he gets paid by crowdSPRING, and you get your logo.

Our experience was very positive indeed. Although a couple of the entries were very basic and uninspiring, the majority were surprisingly good. And it was quite difficult to choose the one we wanted, as we really were spoilt for choice.

Having gone through the nightmare of trying to get a logo designed in the past many times, I wholeheartedly recommend crowdSPRING as a pain-free source of high-quality logos. Instead of working with one single designer or company, you get to tap into the talents of many. Give them a go.
