- The screenshot must not point to an HTML page, but directly to a GIF or JPEG image. Although the PAD file specification allows the PNG image format, most software sites will only accept images in the GIF or JPEG formats. For maximum compatibility we would recommend that you use only GIF or JPEG formatted images.
- If you choose to use a Program Icon, keep in mind that most software sites that use this information will only accept a GIF image of 32 x 32 pixels.
- The PAD XML File is the most frequently overlooked field! For most of the fully-automated PAD sites, this is one of the most important pieces of information. It should point directly to the XML file on your server. Also, keep in mind that many of the PAD-enabled sites use the PAD file URL as a unique identifier. Changing that URL could result in duplicate listings on some of those sites.
- The Application Order URL should link to a permanent page on your site, and not link directly to your ecommerce provider's site.
- The download URLs must point directly to the EXE or ZIP file; not an HTML page. If you only have one URL, there is no need to fill in the additional URL fields.
- The download URLs should point to generic links that will not change based on version. Once your software is listed on the software sites, they will all link to this particular file. If you were to change the URL for each version, doing so would sever all the existing links to your download. By using a generic download URL, all you would need to do is update the EXE or ZIP file for each new version. In this way, the people downloading your software would always be getting the latest version.
