• The program name should not contain any reference to a specific version. It is also best to avoid the use of any special characters within the program name, because the various software sites might not be able to display them correctly or read them at all. Also, keep in mind that some software sites use the program name as a unique identifier. If you change it, this may create duplicate listings for your product on some sites.
  
  
• If you do not intend to use the system requirements field, or if there is not sufficient space in the field to enter all of your system requirements, we suggest filling-in that field with your operating system requirements (even though there is a field designated for this specific purpose). Some software sites do not correctly read the supported operating system field but do read the system requirement field. By adding this information to both fields (operating system and system requirement), you have a better chance of having the information displayed. If your software has very specific operating system requirements, we suggest that you mention this in your 450 and 2000 character descriptions.
  
  
• All relevant operating systems should be entered, not just the "main" ones.
  
  
• "Category Class" is a new field, which is part of the new PAD file specification. The drop down contains a large list of potential categories. Since many PAD enabled sites will use this field to automatically categorize your software, it is important to carefully select the most appropriate category.
  
  
• In the "Cost (US$)" field, there is no need to enter the $ symbol. If your software is freeware, you should enter either "0" or "0.00". Some sites may have issues with a blank field. You can, however, leave the "Cost (Other)" field blank.
  
  
• The text box next to the "Size (Bytes)" button should not be used as a "free form" entry field. Pressing on the "Size (Bytes)" button will activate an "Open" dialog box. Use the "Open" dialog box to find your downloadable program. Once you find it and press "Open", PADGen will calculate the proper file size information and fill in the text box as well as the size in kilobytes and megabytes which is hidden on the PADGen interface.
  
  
• Even if your software is not restricted by a number of days, number of uses or a fixed date expiration, any restrictions that set it apart from the full registered version should be placed in the "Other Expire Info" field.
